One of the most difficult transitions for parents of children with special needs is when the child ages out of the special education system. Depending on the state and the child, this can happen any time between age 18 and 22. This can mean an loss of vital structure and supports for the child and the family. It can also be a time when the child becomes eligible for public benefits and when he moves from home.
