Anyone who has cared for a loved one has faced the challenges of our elder care system. It’s confusing. It’s hard to find the right care at the right time in the right place. Needs keep changing. It’s expensive. At the same time, care workers are under paid.
With so many players involved in providing care — hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, area agencies on aging, insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, family members, just to name a few — it’s hard to coordinate everything or improve the system.
One organization, however, is seeking to the lay the foundation for positive change by listening to caregivers themselves. Caregiving Across Generations, in collaboration with the Care Can’t Wait Coalition and its research collaborators, the Urban Institute and New America, is seeking information about the experiences of caregivers of all types in all locations. Caregivers can respond to its survey. They are also asking volunteers to convene meetings or interview their neighbors.
The purpose of the effort is “to shape a new vision for care in America — grounded in real conversations with families about what they need, what’s missing, and the future they want to build.”

Individuals or organizations may also host a group discussion, either in person or online. As part of that effort, we will be hosting a Zoom conversation on Thursday, September 17th at noon.
