Wellesley, MA., July 10th, 2023 – Margolis Bloom & D’Agostino, an estate, special needs and long-term care planning law firm, is delighted to announce that Laura Gasegu, a third-year law student at Suffolk University Law School, has been awarded Its first Estate Planning Scholarship. This award is given to a second- or third-year law student attending a law school in Massachusetts who is interested in serving BIPOC communities in the field of estate planning. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage law students from backgrounds underrepresented in the field to consider estate planning.
“We are delighted to present this award — the first for our firm — to Laura Gasegu. Her application showed her commitment to the BIPOC communities, including her role as executive board member for the Multicultural Undergraduate Law Association. The failure of some members of BIPOC communities to engage in estate planning can undermine the creation of generational wealth.” said Harry S. Margolis, the firm’s founding partner. “We hope to encourage more law students from diverse backgrounds to consider pursuing elder law, special needs and estate planning.”
Laura Gasegu completed her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. At Suffolk University Law School she is involved in several activities, including: housing discrimination testing, Immigration Law Association as the Treasurer, and the Black Law Students Association as the Executive Director. For the last several years she has clerked at MacMurray and Associates and Keches Law Group.
“In my first year of law school, I quickly realized that the law is often used as a weapon to harm marginalized communities. I strongly believe that the legal field should prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion to prevent the law from perpetuating oppression. DEI will ensure that all voices can be heard, and the law does not endorse the oppression of any community. I am committed to promoting DEI in the legal field and I am looking forward to learning more about estate planning.”
