How long have you been at MBD? 3 ½ years – I started a month before Covid sent us all home.
Who was the most influential person in your life? My maternal grandmother. She left her home and family in Ireland by herself at 18 and arrived in Boston when the Irish were not particularly welcome. She worked as a cook in a private home and eventually for the railroad, cleaning cars. Somehow she managed to buy her own home and provide a good life for my mother and aunt. She was happiest with her button accordion on her knee engaging with an audience. I thank her for my love of music and my independent spirit.
On any given Saturday, where can we find you and what would you be doing? There is a weekly radio show on Saturday mornings that I like to listen to while I do my chores and errands. In the afternoon I might be found at my brother’s pool with some assortment of his seven (soon to be nine) grandchildren, or out with friends for a light hike or bike ride. The evening might find me volunteering at a live performance at the local arts center or out to dinner with friends.
Favorite food to eat or make or both? Popcorn! Anytime day or night!
Best place you have traveled, and/or dream destination? Cuba – although shockingly poor, the arts and music are everywhere and the people are so warm and welcoming. Also, I fell in love with Australia through movies and tv shows. It is at the top of my bucket list to visit!
